App developers are probably familiar with the iOS simulator – a program for your computer that lets you test out any iOS apps you developed for the platform. While it’s possible to use your mouse to mimic the touch user interface on your computer, it’s just not the same as using your finger on the touchscreen of an iOS device. Well, a developer has somehow managed to find a way to get the iOS simulator running on his Mac, with the Dell ST2220T touchscreen monitor. With the use of the Touch-Base driver for OS X, he managed to turn his 21″ touchscreen display into a simulator for the iPad. There are also videos on youtube of the Dell working as a single-point touch screen with mac os, but to my knowledge multitouch is not yet supported. Leaning toward the Acer now, though I much rather prefer the look and technology of the dell screen (not limited to capacitive input devices, so you can use common objects like paint brushes as.
